When I first started thinking about working on this big 10’ square painting (actually it’s 9 1/2 x 10 1/2 feet), I had several ideas about how I would go about it. I even tried some out on a couple of smaller, more manageable canvases. But once I started working on the big one, it just seems to have developed a mind of its own and I just have to follow along. Interesting how that happens.
Right now I’ve silkscreened images directly onto the canvas rather than collaging them onto it. I’m also experimenting with the new paint and finding out how the colors work. It seems to be heading into the purple range. Image-wise, I don’t have a clue. I just don’t know. It’s too soon. But it is exciting to see what happens and imagine what might happen. I had thought I would divide it up into sections and overlap these with more sections, but that doesn’t seem to be what I’m doing. It’s probably going to end up being one big painting. We will see.
